Ofcom “letting Royal Mail off the hook” by allowing reduced second-class deliveries

Liberal Democrat MP, Bobby Dean, has slammed the regulator Ofcom for “letting Royal Mail off the hook” after they today (10th July) announced that they would allow the company to abandon second-class deliveries on a Saturday and cut them back throughout the week.
Last month data revealed that Royal Mail is consistently failing to meet performance targets across London, with some areas post arriving late nearly 30% of the time. With some residents in Carshalton and Wallington going weeks between deliveries.
Bobby Dean MP has been regularly raising the issue, with his campaign being featured by BBC London and on ITV London News
Speaking about the changes Bobby, said,
“Royal Mail’s service has been poor for too long. While I am hopeful that this is an opportunity to turn it around, OFCOM must not let the company off the hook for their failings.
“Local posties do a fantastic job, even under a leadership that is letting them down. It’s not right to give those at the top a free pass and the regulator should step up and ensure those in charge are held accountable.
“The shocking level of service Royal Mail has provided has left people in Carshalton and Wallington missing bills and doctors appointments. That is simply unacceptable, and I will keep fighting until this service meets the standard people expect and deserve.”
