Sutton Lib Dems Fight to Keep Residents' Voice in Planning

At Monday’s council meeting Lib Dem councillors debated and agreed a motion on the Government’s proposals to reform the planning system.  

In a passionate opening speech by Cllr David Bartolucci, who presented the motion, he described the plans as, “a crude attempt to silence and dilute the voices of local communities and residents. Moreover, it is an attack on Localism and local decision making. Forcing the will of the people to be subjugated to a centralised Government algorithm.”

30 assaults on Sutton’s ambulance staff “utterly unacceptable”, says council leader

Figures uncovered by Sutton Liberal Democrats have revealed that local ambulance staff were assaulted 30 times in the year till August. Council leader Ruth Dombey called these figures “utterly unacceptable” and urged ministers to bring forward tougher sentences as soon as possible. The 30 incidents, from August 2019 to August 2020, include 11 incidents by physical blow, 4 incidents by grabbing or touching, and 3 incidents by spitting.

Tory TfL deal is punishing local people for doing the right thing

Sutton Liberal Democrats have slammed the Conservative Government's plan to enforce harsh conditions in its COVID-19 financial support deal to Transport for London (TfL).

In a letter leaked last night, the Government has insisted on expanding the Congestion Charge zone to the north and south circular, fare rises and a council tax hike. If the Mayor of London does not accept the conditions, the Government has threatened to take over the running of TfL.

Parents praise for Kingston Avenue School Street

We’re now two weeks into the School Street trial outside Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy on Kingston Avenue. I came along to help last week and it was amazing to see all the parents and children safely reclaiming the road. A School Street is where the road outside a school is closed to motor vehicles during school drop-off and pick-up times except for residents living in that street.
