Your Sutton North Liberal Democrat team
Sam, Yusuf and Vanessa
Sam, Yusuf and Vanessa are the Lib Dem team - backed by outgoing councillor Ruth Dombey - fighting for local people in Sutton North.
They are picking up the baton from Ruth having already gained a proven track record of delivering for local people - from within the Council and outside. Their experience means they know what it takes to make sure our area has a strong voice.
They have already been part of the hard work the local Lib Dem council and Luke Taylor MP have been doing to secure new investment in our high streets, keep our borough one of the safest places to live in the country and make sure that help is available to families struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Unlike the other parties Sam, Yusuf and Vanessa are regularly out and about in our community, knocking on doors and fixing local issues.
Together, they will fight for our area's future, making sure that nobody is left behind and that local residents and groups are involved in decision making about the issues that matter most to them.
Sam is Sutton born and raised, and has been a councillor in Sutton North since 2022. In his time as a councillor, he has focused on the issues that affect us all - and is particularly proud to have secured new safety lighting on Sutton Green, got Benhill Wood Road resurfaced, and delivered the new pump track in Rosehill Park West.
He volunteers for the Friends of Sutton Green and Friends of Rosehill Park West, and also sits on the local neighbourhood watch. As a young person facing the housing crisis himself - he has championed action to help people get on the property ladder and has regularly spoken up in the Council chamber on behalf of more opportunities for young people.
Yusuf has been campaigning in Sutton for over a decade. He was born in St Helier hospital and is a leading campaigner in fighting for it to get the funding and repairs it so badly needs. He has knocked on doors throughout our area hearing peoples’ local healthcare stories - an experience which has led him to only double down his efforts on boosting the local NHS and supporting those in the social care system.
In his professional life, he has worked with governments to make the internet safer, helping the most vulnerable people in conflict-ridden countries and building stronger community cohesion in the UK and abroad. He has also worked with businesses to improve their brand performance and relationships with consumers.
Vanessa has built an impressive career dedicated to justice, wellbeing, and community. She has worked as a youth worker and a caseworker, managed a solicitors’ office, and after qualifying as a psychologist, supported individuals through her work as a counsellor and life coach. She went on to play a critical role in our local response to the pandemic, and now serves as the CEO of a charity working with young people and disenfranchised members of society.
Her wealth of experience of getting out into the community and helping people means she will be a strong local champion for our area. She loves our area and will naturally fight to make sure our community stays strong, with support getting to those who need it, and local groups getting the assistance they need to thrive.
