Sutton Lib Dems unveil 2026 election manifesto with promise to “Keep Sutton Moving Forward”
The Sutton Liberal Democrats have today (9th April) unveiled their manifesto ahead of the local council elections next month.
The document, entitled “Keep Sutton Moving Forward”, outlines a wide array of policies that focus on the priorities of the people of Sutton - including healthcare, policing and the local economy.
The manifesto is centred on seven “Key Pledges” for Sutton:
- Develop a District Centre Plan for every high street
- Fight to extend St Helier’s Emergency Department
- Identify and fix 50 local hotspots in need of love
- Introduce a new Rental Standards Charter for the borough
- Lead several initiatives that together form a ‘Community Green Movement’
- Democratise community funding pots
- Put Sutton on the map for sciences and culture
The party has said that together, these pledges will enable the Council to “keep building an affordable, prosperous and even greener borough, made up of healthy, thriving communities and safer neighbourhoods” and “A place where there are homes for all, where community power is strong and where Sutton’s name is on the map for excellence in the sciences and culture.”
Leader of the Council, Barry Lewis, said:
“Now, more than ever, Sutton needs a Council that combines experience with vision. We’re facing hugely challenging economic times, and global uncertainty that shapes peoples’ lives here at home.
“The Lib Dems have that experience - we have been trusted for years to run Sutton well, and we are so proud of our achievements in that time - including making Sutton one of the safest places to live in England, with vibrant high streets and strong communities.
“But we are not resting on our laurels - we know that a more uncertain future demands a bold plan to keep Sutton moving forward. This powerful manifesto showcases the bold, ambitious and vibrant ideas that the Liberal Democrats stand ready to deliver to make that happen.”
Deputy Leader of the Council, Sam Martin, said:
“On 7th May, Sutton will either be run by a Conservative-Reform coalition of chaos or a Liberal Democrat administration that brings the values and vision of this manifesto to life, just as we have done so many times before.”
