Lib Dem win: TfL to finally make Carshalton Rd. safer
Sutton Central Councillors Richard, Ed and Cryss have been approached several times about the concerns with visibility and safety on Carshalton Road.
This is a Transport for London-managed road but after much lobbying we were delighted when TFL engineers visited on June 11th and finally heard our concerns.
We looked at the signage on the grass patch outside Manor Park. The concern is that the lower sign (commercial advertisement) affects visibility for pedestrians crossing the road. Although this sits on a TLRN route, the grass patch it stands on may be council land. TFL will establish who owns the signs, and who owns the land, and see what can be done with regards to the lower sign.
And there have been concerns raised about the junction with Victoria Road too - namely poor visibility for vehicles turning right. The issues stem from the angle of Carshalton road on approach, as well as speed of the cars. TFL have agreed to install a Vehicle Activated Sign on the lamp post, and will also now consider changing the single red route lines at the entrance of Victoria Road to double, stopping vans and cars blocking the view of drivers attempting to exit.
