Lib Dem Councillors take action on HMO developers

Lib Dem-led Sutton Council is taking action against rogue landlords turning family homes into giant house-shares, known as Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

Recently, the Council over-turned the Conservatives’ rules that allowed developers to convert homes into HMOs without planning permission.  Now, it’s launching a public consultation on a stricter set of rules to make rogue landlords meet higher standards.

Cllr Jake Short, said:
“We’re taking action to raise standards for renters and protect family homes. I’d urge anyone impacted by poor conditions in HMOs to contact us.”
