Bobby Dean, MP for Carshalton & Wallington, joined families and volunteers at the brilliant ‘Get on Downs’ community event on 25 March to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.

The event brought together local Down Syndrome families for a fun day of activities, conversation and support. It was a chance to recognise the incredible contribution that people with Down Syndrome make to our community, as well as the dedication of parents, carers and organisers who work year-round to ensure families feel included and supported.

Bobby Dean MP commented:

“It was a genuinely joyful day. It was fantastic to meet families, see children having fun, and hear directly from parents and carers about what’s working well and what still needs to change.”

Bobby has previously spoken in Parliament about standing up for people with Down Syndrome and highlighting the concerns many parents have about whether the education system is consistently able to meet the specific needs of children with Down Syndrome.

Bobby added:

“Families should never have to fight for the right support. We need an education system that understands children’s needs early, provides the right specialist help, and gives parents confidence that their child will be supported to thrive.”

Bobby thanked everyone involved in organising the event and reiterated his commitment to working with local families and campaigners to push for better support in schools and services.
