Delivered: 92 new Council Homes for local people

Beech Tree Place

After years of planning, construction and overcoming some significant challenges along the way, Beech Tree Place has now been completed - fit with 92 brand new homes for local people.

For the families, first-time buyers and older residents who will soon move in, this is about far more than bricks and mortar. It is about having a safe, secure and modern place to call home.

The old Beech Tree Place had served Sutton for decades, but it was built in the 1950s for a very different era. The homes no longer met modern expectations, accessibility standards or environmental performance - to say nothing of the urgent need to build low-carbon, low-bill housing to tackle the Climate and Cost of Living Crises.

Ninety-two new homes now stand where there were once just twenty ageing flats. That's more families with somewhere affordable to live. More opportunities for local people to stay in Sutton. More older residents living in homes designed for modern life, and another contribution towards tackling the housing pressures facing London. The completed scheme provides affordable rented homes all built to far higher standards than those they replace. It is exactly the sort of investment families in our borough need.

Beech Tree Place joins a growing list of council-led projects that are helping to shape Sutton for the better. New council homes, regenerated neighbourhoods, greener buildings and investment in our town centre are all part of the same ambition: keeping Sutton moving forward.

There is, of course, more to do. Too many local people are still priced out of the housing market. Too many families remain on waiting lists. We will continue working to build the genuinely affordable homes our borough needs while protecting the suburban character that makes Sutton such a special place.

But we're so proud to say that when residents start moving through the front doors of Beech Tree Place over the coming weeks, Sutton will take another step towards a borough where there is good quality, affordable housing for all.

And that's what makes all the hard work worthwhile.
