At the Council's annual Mayor-Making meeting last night (26th May 2026), Wallington South Liberal Democrat Councillor Muhammad Sadiq was elected Mayor of Sutton for the 2026/2027 term.

Muhammad has served on the Council for twelve years, representing his local residents with pride and working with the Lib Dem leadership of Sutton Council to deliver real results for the borough.

He has been a crucial part of the local community since 1975, including by serving as a local primary school governor for eight years. This is his third non-consecutive term as Mayor of Sutton, having previously served between 2015-2016 and 2019-2020.

Muhammad said: “It is a great honour and privilege to have been elected as Mayor of Sutton having previously served in the role during 2015 - 2016 and again in 2019 - 2020. To be entrusted with representing the borough and serving its residents is a responsibility I value deeply. I remain committed to supporting our diverse communities, celebrating the achievements of local people and organisations, and continuing to work for the benefit of all residents across Sutton.”

Cryss has served her residents in Sutton Central since 2022, helping many facing hardship and standing up for the voices of local residents. She has a wealth of professional experience in bringing people together - and is a Chartered HR professional.

Cryss has also volunteered at a local foodbank and seen firsthand the challenges people are facing in this cost of living crisis - and will keep fighting for action locally and nationally to get support to those who need it.
