Bobby Dean, who is running to be Carshalton & Wallinton’s MP for the Liberal Democrats, spoke at the Kempe Center International Conference called “A Call To Action To Change Child Welfare” about his experience in Kinship Care.

Invited by the campaigning charity, Family Rights Group, Bobby spoke about how he went into the care of his grandparents as a teenager and advocated for greater recognition of family looking after family.

Bobby Dean, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Carshalton & Wallington, said:

“I went into Kinship Care as a young teenager - but I never knew it was called that until much later on in life. There just isn’t the recognition out there for family members that take on responsibility for children that are not their own.

“With my own personal experience and in hearing about others, I’m highly motivated to ensure that the law starts recognising Kinship Carers properly and ensures they have at least the same rights as many foster parents are entitled to.”
