Bobby Dean slams congestion charge on green vehicles
Bobby Dean MP, along with the London Liberal Democrats , denounced plans by TfL to increase London's Congestion Charge and include electric vehicles in the charge.
This news is “an affront to everyone who has done, and wants to do, the right thing by transitioning to green energy”, said Dean.
From 2 January 2026, the daily Congestion Charge will jump from £15 to £18 – a steep increase during a cost-of-living crisis that many will struggle to afford. The inclusion of electric vehicles in the charges from December 2025 is also a blow to the many businesses, traders and families who got on board with the message to decarbonise their vehicles.
Bobby Dean added:
“Just this summer, the Government launched a £650 million scheme to boost EV uptake. These new congestion charges will leave thousands of tradespeople who signed up for that scheme feeling completely betrayed. The decision to include electric vehicles in the congestion charge is an affront to everyone who has done, and wants to do, the right thing by transitioning to green energy”
