154 bus route ‘dramatically improved’ after community campaign

Reliability on the 154 bus route has dramatically improved following a successful community campaign led by local residents and Bobby Dean MP.
Research from Liberal Democrat MP Bobby Dean revealed that journeys on the 154 bus, which runs from West Croydon to Morden, were cut short more than 2,000 times last year. At its worst in late 2024 and early 2025, operated mileage along the route dropped as low as 94%, significantly below the 98% target.
Over 600 local residents signed the petition to “Fix the 154,” prompting Transport for London (TfL) to announce in April that it would introduce changes to allow more time for buses to complete their full routes.
Since those changes took effect, performance has markedly improved across the board. Operated mileage reached a high of 99.1% in April and has remained close to or above the 98% target in the months since.
Bobby Dean, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, said:
“It shouldn’t take a campaign and a petition with over 600 signatures just to get a bus to run properly but I’m pleased we got the change we needed. There has been a dramatic improvement along the route, and that’s ultimately thanks to the efforts of people who stood up and demanded better from TfL.
“Reliable public transport isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline. Whether it’s getting to work, school, or hospital appointments people in our community depend on buses like the 154. That’s why ’ll keep pushing to make sure this progress is maintained for residents, and why I’m now launching a survey to build a clearer picture of the challenges across our entire local bus network.”~
