Your Cheam Liberal Democrat team
Shimino, Stephen and Melody
Shimino, Stephen and Melody are the local Lib Dem team fighting for all of us in Cheam.
Like most of us, they are sick and tired of being represented by Conservative councillors who just talk our area down and have no plan for the future. They have decided to step up for the community and run for election themselves - making sure this area has hardworking local champions fighting for it in the Council chamber.
They back the hard work the local Lib Dem council and Luke Taylor MP have been doing to secure new investment in our high streets, keep our borough one of the safest places to live in the country and make sure that help is available to families struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Unlike the Conservative councillors Shimino, Stephen and Melody are already out and about in our community, knocking on doors and fixing local issues. Together, they will fight for Cheam's future, making sure that nobody is left behind and that local residents and groups are involved in decision making.
As a member of neighbourhood watch and a worker in the health sector, Shimino will focus on clamping down on crime and securing better healthcare for Cheam residents. As someone who regularly speaks to local people on the doorsteps, she believes that delivering real results in these areas is the most important way to keep up our pride in the area.
Professionally, Shimino brings substantial experience in the health sector, supported by a strong background in finance and a full professional qualification as an IT engineer. This combination gives her a grounded understanding of how essential services operate, how budgets are managed, and how technology can be used to improve outcomes for local people.
Stephen left a long career in the Civil Service to become a leading figure in standing up for opportunities for children with SEND, and works in the voluntary sector to get young people the support they need. He is passionate about making sure that every child in our community has every opportunity to thrive.
His belief in the power of a good education has led him to also serve as a local school governor at two different primary schools in Sutton.
Melody is active in the local voluntary sector and works for a local charity, so she is passionate about supporting the incredible everyday heroes who keep our vital local groups alive. She is a school governor at St Dunstan’s, has been involved in organising many school and church fayres and events - and runs two local groups herself: the She-Sings community choir and Coterie - both of which focus on helping local women.
As a former Management Consultant and Engineer, Melody also regularly delivers talks at schools to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) opportunities for young people.
