Chandra, Joseph and Rashi
Chandra Alapati, Joseph Barkham and Rashi Barsaiyan are your Liberal Democrat Councillors in Belmont. They were first elected in 2026.
Together, they are fighting hard for the community and delivering on your priorities. They will fight for Belmont’s future, making sure that nobody is left behind and that local residents and groups are involved in decision making.
They are on hand to tackle any concerns you might have about issues the local council is responsible for in your local area.
Rashi is raising her children in our area and knows firsthand the challenges of the cost of living crisis facing local people.
As a champion for local families, she will back strong action to make sure support is available to those who need it - and also that opportunities are there for adults to reskill later in life, which is why she has run the coding club at Sutton library.
In her professional life she worked as a digital champion for a major company and has worked at the Home Office.
Joseph has worked for a major supermarket for over ten years in product development and sourcing, meaning he has a strong understanding of what it takes to keep our local economy strong and resilient.
He backs the work Sutton Council has been doing to support local businesses to thrive, including efforts to make sure all our high streets are full of great local businesses.
In his spare time Joseph has volunteered at Warren Farm just over the road in Ewell, complimenting his passion for protecting our environment and keeping people healthy with locally sourced, sustainable food.
Chandra is an IT professional and local parent who is passionate about fighting for the best for Belmont.
He is a Street Coordinator for the Belmont and South Cheam Residents’ Association, an active member of Nonsuch School’s PTA (a role in which he helped to raise over £10,000 for the school), sits on the Belmont Neighbourhood Watch, leads safety awareness campaigns focused on car theft and burglary prevention, and is a member of the Royal British Legion.
He does all of this because he believes strong community groups, in which local people help each other, builds trust and understanding, protect our sense of belonging, and ensure local issues are identified and dealt with early.
