Sutton has distributed £22.7 million of grant funding to local businesses representing 89% of businesses identified as entitled to government grants. This makes Sutton one of the best boroughs in London at distributing this vital lifeline to the local economy.
This has been achieved through the efficient working of the council's award-winning Revenues and Benefits team, who have been working overtime to ensure the funding reaches those businesses that need help during this crisis.
There are still some businesses that may be eligible and are yet to claim. We would urge those businesses that may qualify as they are small, or classed as retail, hospitality or leisure to contact the council via [email protected]
to claim funds they may be entitled to.
Sutton's Lib Dem councillors have alerted the Government to the fact that a number of our businesses are struggling due to the coronavirus crisis but do not qualify for help under the current scheme. We have therefore been pleased to see the Government this week announce further funding for businesses that have fallen through the net. Once the government has announced the detailed guidance the council will act quickly to distribute this new funding.
Sutton's Lib-Dem Council will continue to work to help our local businesses through this difficult time so we can achieve our ambitions for Sutton as a thriving place for business and investment, and a great place to live, work and raise a family.
