Parking enforcement suspended due to Coronavirus

Our priority at this difficult time is to do whatever we can to support the national effort to suppress the COVID19 pandemic. We support residents in their resolve to stay home, protect our NHS, and save lives.

With this in mind, we have taken the decision to suspend the enforcement of all non-safety related parking restrictions until further notice. This means that all residents-only parking schemes, including the recently introduced schemes around Hackbridge and Carshalton station, are not in effect until further notice.

The Lib Dem Council’s parking consultation has sought to prioritise resident parking. Through a phase by phase, borough wide consultation, we have asked residents about parking problems in their area. There has been support for residents-only parking schemes in select parts of the borough, and we’ve listened to concerns in those areas by introducing suitable schemes.

Under normal circumstances, we prioritise residents parking concerns over other road users.

Under these extraordinary circumstances, essential workers, such as supermarket staff and NHS workers are our priority. We want them to have as much flexibility as possible when parking near their place of work, and safely and efficiently taking deliveries. Most residents, meanwhile, will not be travelling during the Government-mandated lockdown, meaning that parking concerns are less relevant than usual.

We hope you understand our decision to suspend enforcement of non-safety related parking restriction during the ongoing crisis. You can read more about these changes here:
