- Elliot Colburn MP urged to end silence over Boris Johnson’s Downing Street parties
Responding to the Met Police launching an investigation into parties held at Downing Street during lockdowns, Bobby Dean, Liberal Democrat candidate for Carshalton and Wallington said:
“Enough is enough. Carshalton and Wallington’s Conservative MP must finally listen to local people and call for Boris Johnson to resign.
“How on earth can you back a disgraced Prime Minister now Downing Street is subject to a police investigation?
“The silence from the local Conservatives on this has been deafening. There can be no more lame excuses for defending Boris Johnson’s actions.
“Local people are rightly outraged by Boris Johnson’s behaviour. Party after party, lie after lie, he has disgraced the office of Prime Minister and made a mockery of the rules which everyone here stuck to. People in Carshalton and Wallington sacrificed so much during this pandemic, with many unable to see dying relatives during lockdowns.
“In Carshalton and Wallington it will be a two horse race between a Conservative party drowning in scandal, and a hard working local Liberal Democrat team which stands up for our community.”
Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey MP, said:
“This is the first step towards justice for millions across the country who have felt so much pain and anger at Boris Johnson’s behaviour.
“Boris Johnson is not above the law, he must be treated like anyone else.
“Boris Johnson has dragged the British public through hell and back in recent months. Each news bulletin brings more pain for those who couldn’t say goodbye to their loved ones, those who went months without seeing their family, and all those who worked endless shifts on the Covid wards to save lives. They deserve justice. He must resign.”
