Beddington Infants' Bug Boarding and Recycled Greenhouse is saving the world!

After winning its 5th Green Flag award this year, Tom Brake MP visited Beddington Infants’ School to celebrate the fantastic success of its eco programme.

Tom spent the morning speaking with pupils and staff at the school to learn about their award winning eco project and how it is helping to save the world!

The infants’ school has been busy using drinks bottles and other plastic waste to construct a novel greenhouse. This will allow the pupils to grow food all year round. The school also hosts an extensive hotel for a number of bugs! This helps ensure that bug populations remain high, which creates more food for birds and other local wildlife.

Pupils also got the opportunity to speak with Tom and quiz him on what being an MP is really like. Tom helped to inspire some very early interest in politics with the students!

Commenting on the school and the programme, Tom said:  “I was bowled over by the pupils enthusiasm for all the exciting green steps they are taking in their school. All power to their green elbows!

“It is really encouraging to see children so young taking an interest in sustainable living”.
