Tom takes time for questions from sixth form students

With the General Election less than two months away, Tom Brake MP attended a Question Time-style debate held by St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls for the prospective parliamentary candidates for Carshalton and Wallington.

The event handed students the opportunity to hear their Lib Dem MP and other candidates discuss the most important issues facing both the constituency and the wider UK.

Over 300 students attended the hustings and grilled the panellists over their stance on a range of issues including rail fares for young people and public health care. The debate was chaired by Rachel, Miriam and Katherine, students from the school, who selected questions for the panellists and kept the proceedings running smoothly.

After the debates, Tom said:  “It was excellent to see a huge turnout at the hustings and great to see such an enthusiasm for politics among the young women.  I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to talk about such important issues with young prospective voters and I hope I demonstrated that I have plenty to offer young people in Carshalton and Wallington.”
