Sutton's Police Force is set to merge with Croydon and Bromley under plans unveiled by Labour's Mayor of London. This comes as the Met Police, who have already made savings of £600 million, are forced by the Conservative Government to make £325 million of savings by 2021.
Tory cuts mean that the number of police officers in London will fall to just 30,000, with the number of officers in Sutton already down 10%. This 'one size fits all' approach is not good enough - Sutton needs its own police force.
Thanks to the special partnership between Sutton Council and the police, our borough is one of the safest in London. This merger puts all of that at risk as resources in Sutton would be diverted to higher-crime areas like Croydon, leading to fewer police officers, slower response times and less community reassurance.
With violent crime on the increase in London, this move is inexplicable and irresponsible.
Back our campaign:
I/We the undersigned oppose the merger of Sutton, Bromley and Croydon police forces and call upon the Mayor of London to stop the merger.
