Former Tory leader supports Tom Brake

Sutton’s senior Conservative Councillor Graham Whitham who resigned from his party during a Council meeting on 20 April has now come out in support of Tom Brake.

Graham Whitham is backing Tom in his re-election campaign for the constituency of Carshalton and Wallington, and is urging others to do the same.

Graham has been a life-long Conservative and, as he told Sutton councillors, felt compelled to speak out against the nasty tendency in his party and warn of the danger of the Tories becoming even more extreme.

Graham said: "I served with Tom on Sutton Council and believe he is the best choice for Carshalton and Wallington.

Graham Whitham has already announced his support for Paul Burstow in whose constituency he had served as a Tory councillor since 1978.  He was also agent for former Carshalton and Wallington MP Nigel Foreman, and leader of Sutton Conservatives until 2014.

Tom Brake said:  “I am grateful for his support and invite you to read his speech to the Council setting out his reasons for abandoning the Conservatives.”
