Fighting backgarden development in Wallington

Local Councillors in Wallington have continued to fight backgarden development with some notable recent successes.

Working with residents means that Boundary Road has seen repeated applications for development of garden land at the south stretch refused and the decisions upheld on appeal. Wallington South Councillors have also successfully prevented attempts to develop a large piece of backgarden land on the north stretch.

Appeals decisions have also upheld Sutton Council’s refusals against backgarden development in Woodcote Avenue.

Jayne McCoy, Lib Dem Councillor for Wallington South, said: "We believe that green space is more important than ever with the pressures to build more housing.

"We must protect our leafy suburban areas and see that development is concentrated around our town and district centres. That's one of the best ways we can ensure Wallington remains a great place to live, work and raise a family."
